New Greenhouse Roof - Finally !

Last winter we had several severe wind-storm events that lasted a week or more with gusts over 60 mph... so my greenhouse roof was toast. Wind Storms are not new up here and this has happened before? That required a quick Blue-Tarp repair to keep out the snow and rain. I always have planned to replace the greenhouse plastic-sheet with rigid polycarbonate panels when I could afford the materials... now is the time!

I started on Tuesday but ran out of supplies by 10 PM so I quit for the day. It started raining on Wednesday and that meant the Blue-Tarp went back up for weather protection.

Saturday the Weather looked better with broken clouds and even a little warm sunshine poking through that let me work outside without a jacket for the first time this year! There was still a slight chance for a rain shower in my area and yes it only rained on me a little so I just grabbed my Gortex rain jacket and kept on working through a brief light shower - Ha!

I finally got the new roofing all attached between rain showers and at least it was weather tight! I Really needed to move some plants out before they completely took over my house and I still had to trim the excess overhang.

I did move plants out in late April and I finally got the extra  overhang trimmed off.

I Still needed my space heaters. I heat my greenhouse at night until low temperatures stay above 40 F in late May. I can see many plants are looking overgrown and ragged from crowding and stress in my indoor planting shelves and I hope they will rebound? Timing is everything when starting seeds indoors. Next year I will wait longer before planting.

I had many more tomato plants than I needed so the extra plants were offered for sale online and I easily sold out in just a few days. The plants were showing stress and needed to be repotted into my Alaska Grow Buckets as soon as possible. That is my plan as soon as the light rain lets up so that I can work outside again. We have had an unusually cold and wet spring up here so far this year and I really hope that our weather improves soon.
